Professional Growth

During my student teaching, I would get observed from my University Mentor and Mentor Teacher. I would get a rubric on my strengths and comments on what I need to work on.

One of my observations notes that I received from my university mentor was to give my students more wait time. She told me that my timing was a bit slow that I would lose my students attention during my lesson. After receiving her feedback, I collaborated with my mentor teacher on how I can improve my wait time. My mentor teacher told me to be upbeat while transitioning to the next subject. I took my university mentor feedback and mentor teachers advice to work on my wait time with my students.

I took the advice to be upbeat with my students when we were transition. For example, I made sure to be fully present when we were moving onto another topic by talking to my students about what we were going to do next while I prepared for the next topic. With the advice and feedback I received, I was able to improve for my next observation.

Professional Goals:

As a new teacher, one of my professional goals is to continue developing my ability to communicate with and support multilingual learners.  During my student teaching, I was able to communicate with my Spanish speaking students, which helped me build strong relationships and support their learning.

I want to continue to learn on how I can gain more knowledge on strategies and resources that will help me communicate with students who home language is different from my own. My goal as a teacher is for every one to feel seen, valued, and supported in my classroom, regardless of language. I plan to continue to learn about more cultural and linguistic responsive teaching and collaborate with families to meet my students needs.
